Man charged in child kidnapping and stolen car incident

Friday, July 14th, Wyandotte Co. District Attorney, Mark Dupree, Sr. announced the formal charges of a man accused in the kidnapping of a 3-year old and taking a stolen car from a gas station, earlier this week.

Tyler Letzig has been charged with kidnapping and aggravated endangerment of a child. Letzig had his first court appearance Friday morning.

A woman, Karri Reich, is also accused in the kidnapping. Authorities believe she stole the car from a KCK gas station, Wednesday evening, after the driver left the vehicle running with the girl inside while he went into the gas station. The child was in the backseat of the car, asleep.

Authorities found the child about an hour later in Tonganoxie in neighboring Leavenworth County.

Letzig, who originally was driving an older utility truck, was later found and arrested.

Reich has not been found and Dupree says the investigation is ongoing. During a press conference, Friday afternoon, Dupree spoke to reporters about the investigation; saying he’s unsure if the parents will be charged for leaving the child alone in the car.
