May is better hearing and speech month

May is better hearing and speech month.

Many want to raise awareness about communication disorder treatment options to help those who are experiencing trouble speaking or hearing.

Speech and hearing can play a big role in communication….but for some it may not come as easy.

Speech pathologist, Matt Gillipsie, said there are a number of things that can affect a person’s ability to hear or their speech.

“head injuries, car crashes, we have a lot of military coming back from war and from service who are surviving injuries”, said Gillispie.

The Schiefelbusch Speech Language Hearing Clinic has audiologist and speech pathologists that use various equipment and treatment plans to assist patients—no matter their age.

Professionals look to help their patients as best they can by seeing how their disorder affects various aspects of their lives.

“how is it impacting their daily life how is it impacting them going to school, or them at work or them at church or them in their community environment”, Gillispie said.

Gillispie also said he focuses on speech sounds and how accurate and efficiently a person can produce the speech sounds.

Experts say speech and hearing disorders are fairly common and say receiving the necessary treatment can make a world of a difference.
