LAWRENCE - KU is working to make sure students have a safe way home after a night on the town. The university is trying to expand Safe Bus routes out to west Lawrence so students don’t have to drive home after being at the bars in downtown Lawrence.
The proposed route would travel a loop through Clinton Parkway near the Legends apartment complex. It also passes through several other complexes as well, including The Grove, and Parkway Commons. Transportation Coordinator Casey Briner says the new route would make students’ lives a lot easier.
Students living in KU dorms on Daisy Hill will be able to get to downtown faster, too. The safe buses will be staggered at 10 minute intervals instead of the usual 20 minutes so students don’t have to wait as long.
The proposal hasn’t been verified yet, but public hearings will be held by the university Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. If approved, changes could go into effect by this fall.
