LAWRENCE - Local law enforcement agencies are looking to have more eyes in downtown Lawrence.
The Lawrence Police Department and Douglas County Sheriff's Office have partnered together to apply for a grant to purchase video cameras and audio equipment to better monitor downtown Lawrence. The nearly $47,000 would be used to purchase equipment to manage downtown traffic, parades, and other
large activities. Officials are also hoping the video technology will allow them to capture evidence of criminal activity.
Officials with Downtown Lawrence Inc. say they'll reserve their judgment on placing more surveillance equipment in downtown Lawrence until they know just how many cameras will be installed.
