'Hugo' and 'The Artist' lead Oscar nominees

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) — Actress Berenice Bejo says she can't believe that a year ago she was learning how to tap dance and today she's up for an Academy Award.

Bejo got a supporting actress nod today for the mostly-silent film "The Artist." The film got 10 nominations overall, one fewer than "Hugo." Both are up for best picture.

Two-time Oscar winner Meryl Streep padded her record as the most-nominated actress. She now has 17 nominations, five more than Katharine Hepburn and Jack Nicholson, who are tied for second-place.

Streep, nominated for best dramatic actress as Margaret Thatcher in "The Iron Lady," says she's "touched deeply" by the honor.

If 82-year-old Christopher Plummer, a supporting-actor nominee for "Beginners," wins, he'll become the oldest acting recipient ever. Jessica Tandy now holds that position for her best-actress win in "Driving Miss Daisy" at age 80.
