Cory worked as an anchor/reporter at 6News from 2010 to October 2012.

I was born and raised in Dallas, TX. I know I'm in Jayhawk country, but I have sworn my allegiance to the Texas Longhorns. I'm also a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan.
I knew I wanted to go into journalism when I was 15. I took a broadcast journalism class in high school and always enjoyed being in front of the camera (even if it was just reading the morning announcements.)
I left the Texas heat for the harsh Chicago winter to attend Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism. I graduated with a BSJ in 2008. My college experience was everything I could have hoped for. I joined a fraternity, participated in student theatre and attended every NU football home game. There were even occasional trips to the beach - if you consider the shores of Lake Michigan "the beach."
The Northwestern News Network played an integral part in sustaining my passion for journalism. I got to work with some great people, including 6News producer Lindsey Slater. It also introduced me to the frightening pressures of the deadline. To this day, I have not missed one. Hopefully that's a streak that can last as long as I'm in the business.
This is not my first stop at 6News. In 2008, I got the chance to work side-by-side with the amazing staff in the news department as an intern. The first time I saw one of my stories on the front page is something I will never forget.
I'm thrilled to call Lawrence home and cannot wait to meet the eclectic mix of people that make-up the town.
When I'm not working I'm either at home watching TV or exploring the "news bubble" that we journalists live in. I plan on spending the next few years exploring Lawrence, and, as a self-proclaimed fat kid, I hope to eat at every local restaurant.
I'm excited to begin my career in such a vibrant place. Send me tips on anything at cjsmith@6newslawrence.com. And don't forget to follow me on Twitter (@coryjosmith).
